THE STORY
From the founding of the dynasty in 1613 to the reigns of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great,
the film explores how the Romanovs expanded their power through war, reform, ceremony, and
absolute rule, surrounding the monarchy with extraordinary wealth, grandeur, and imperial
spectacle.
But behind the glittering palaces and royal rituals, political unrest, poverty, revolution, and social
upheaval were reshaping Russia. As the empire entered the modern age, the monarchy struggled to
adapt to a rapidly changing world.
The documentary follows the final years of Nicholas II, Alexandra, and the growing influence of
Rasputin, leading to the collapse of the imperial system and the execution of the royal family during
the Russian Revolution.
